Internships

HiTOPS is pleased to announce the opening of our 2026-2027 Graduate Student Field Placement/Internship application process.

Graduate students placed at HiTOPS will have the opportunity to build and strengthen their skills and experiences, their understanding of non-profit culture and structure, their relationships with colleagues, and their abilities in communications, team collaboration, and organization.

Placements at HiTOPS expand and extend the capacity of our staff and are designed to align with HiTOPS’ mission and work, the school’s academic requirements, and the interests of the students. Students may be asked to work virtually, in person, or in a combination; this will always be determined based on best practices for health and safety.

We welcome 1st and 2nd year students enrolled in a MSW Graduate Program during the 2026-2027 school year, who have a passion for our mission and demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in sexual health-related education and training, curriculum development, program evaluation, communications, the LGBTQ+ community, social work, or counseling, to apply for a field placement that is one year (two semesters) or longer, in length.  This year, we offer placements for the following internship positions:

1 Macro Focused Internship Position

This student will be someone with an interest in working in macro-level social work and nonprofit leadership. They should have experience with or be interested in doing work in the realm of program development and planning, event planning and execution, partnership development, fundraising, grant writing, community organizing, resource connection and development, policy and community-based advocacy. They should have a strong interest in working with the LGBTQ+ community, and have highly developed skills in writing, time management, planning, and communication.

Ideally, this candidate would be a second-year student obtaining their MSW and a Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership. This position will be mainly remote, though there will be occasional opportunities for in-person hours in the Mercer County area.

2-3 Clinical/Direct Practice Focused Internship Positions

The primary responsibility of these students is as a facilitator for our LGBTQ+ Support and Education Groups. Students will have a specific job description and work directly with our new LCSW with whom they will meet weekly. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Client Intake
  • Regularly scheduled virtual communications with group members via Discord
  • Support Group planning and facilitation
  • Maintaining Group notes and individual files

The ideal candidates can be either first or second year MSW students and must have the ability to work both remotely and in person in the Mercer County area, with the majority of hours spent in a remote setting. They should have a strong interest in direct practice with LGBTQ+ young people and be interested in doing group work and clinical work with our population.

*Please note this is not a clinical placement providing individual therapy*

All candidates must complete and submit an application by clicking on the button below.

Additionally, you must submit a cover letter and resume to adowney@hitops.org before the closing deadline of May 31st, 2026.
