Programs for Youth
Youth learn factual information, risk-education strategies and skills for decision-making. Adult-facilitated peer-led programs address challenging teen issues – sexual health, homophobia, HIV/AIDS, relationships, dating, bullying and communication with peers and parents – and promote responsible decision-making, respect and communication. TEEN COUNCIL WORKSHOPS
HiTOPS’ Teen Council peer educators completed more than 140 hours of training and presented 29 interactive workshops to 1,261 teens this past year on topics of Pregnancy Prevention, Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV, Homophobia Reduction and Date Rape. Two thirds of those teens are high risk youth in juvenile detention centers and community based programs.
Teen Council’s HIV programs at Hopewell Valley Regional School to commemorate Worlds AIDS Day 2011 were funded in part by FACT Bucks County. As a result of this program:97% agreed that my knowledge on this topic increased, 100% agreed that I am more likely to always use condoms during sex, 95% agreed that I am more likely to talk to my partner about using protection for sexual activities, 91% agreed that I am more likely to get tested for HIV.
