Founded by nurse practitioners and health educators, HiTops collective expertise is in providing medically accurate, age-appropriate, health and sexual health education to youth. HiTops has 30 years of experience promoting best practices in adolescent health for reducing risks and promoting health enhancing behaviors.
By listening closely to teens and young adults, HiTops developed best practices for reducing youth-identified barriers to clinical care thereby increasing access to testing, treatment and counsel.
Recognizing the strong influence of peers during adolescence, HiTops health educators worked with high school students to create Teen Council, a training and leadership program for developing peer-to-peer educators on topics of sexual health, healthy relationships, and inclusiveness. Teen Council is the umbrella program and testing ground for Teen PEP which is in schools throughout the state of NJ and was selected for 5-year federal Office of Adolescent Health replication and evaluation grant for programs in NJ and NC.
