Diaphragm

A diaphragm is a soft rubber cup that is inserted into the vagina and fits over the cervix.  It keeps the sperm and egg apart by forming a barrier between the sperm and the cervix.  It also kills sperm with the spermicide placed inside the cup.  The diaphragm is 96% effective for pregnancy prevention if used properly.  The diaphragm does not provide enough protection against sexually transmitted infections or HIV, and should be used with a condom.

How do you use it?

Put spermicide inside the diaphragm cup and insert the cup into your vagina to cover the cervix.  It must be kept in place for eight hours after intercourse.  After removing, wash and re-use unless it has hole in it or you gain or lose a large amount of weight.

Side effects:

Possible allergic reaction to the latex material or the spermicide.  Use condoms along with the diaphragm for best protection.
